Mga Batang Poz: An eye-opener book that tackles HIV and its stigma.
Realistic, on point and an eye opener.
Those were the words that I’d use to describe the book Mga
Batang Poz written by Sir Jun or Segundo Matias Jr.
The first time that he told me that he will come up with a
book that tackles HIV, its stigma and to raise awareness about it, I knew
instantly that it will be a must-read. The same day that I got a copy of the
book, (Thanks, Sir Jun!) I started reading it while waiting for a friend in a
mall. I couldn’t put it down and finished it when I got home that night.
The book is all about four young people, practically strangers
to each other, that were positive (POZ) with HIV. You’ll know their life,
heartaches and their journey from how they were living before and after being
diagnosed with HIV. With this book, you’ll see how they struggle and how
painful it was to feel alone and be left alone by the people who should be the
one supporting you.
What I also liked about this book most is that the
characters and scenes were too realistic. A character living in the slums and
another character living with a strict business-central family.. they were all
detailed. The cursing and the vulgar words were also an added character. It was
as if I knew this character personally even though they were just in my mind.
And I think this is also one of the charm of this book.
The book is available in Precious Pages Book Stores as well
as in National Bookstores.
